Chancellor Merkel: EU appoints Commissioner Stylianides against Ebola, a Challenge for Humankind

*Brussels/EU Summit/Angelo Marcopolo/(OverNigfht)- On Ebola epidemics the EU Summit of Heads of State/Governments expressed a "clear Concern", and decided, ToNight "to appoint the (incoming) new EU Commissioner for Humanitarian affairs, Christos Stylianides from Cyprus, also EU Representative for Ebola", anounced German Chancellor Angie Merkel, speaking to Journalists in Brussels, including "EuroFora", just after the end of the 1st Day of the 23-24 European Council.

- In fact, the importance of Ebola epidemics makes it "a Tremendous Challenge", and "for all Humankind", Merkel stressed.

- Therefore, we (must eradicate this Scortch, she urged.

- "In West Africa, a terrible tragedy is unfolding before our eyes", denounced earlier EU Parliament's President, Martin Schulz, in his Speech at the beginning of EU Summit, where he cited "Appalling Images" of "Ebola Sufferers being turned away from Hospitals and quarantine centers, because there is No Room for them, Sick Children abandoned at the roadside, ... People Dying Horribly from this terrible disease, .. corpses left Unburied", etc.

- In fact, "the Epidemic is Spreading every day, endangering more and more People", Schulz warned, (despite of at least 2 African Countries recently cleared as "Ebola Free"), => "We (EU) must do more to Help the West African Countries affected by the Ebola outbreak, to Fight this Disease, and we must do so Quickly, in order to ..Curb the Spread of the Epidemics, and protect People also in Europe".

In this regard, among various other Measures, "EU Parliament (in a Resolution adopted this week in Strasbourg), is also calling on  the UN SC, ... to consider.. using Civil and Military Protection resources", in "efforts .. overseen by the UN SG (Ban Ki Moon), and the (UN) Office for coordination of Humanitarian affairs", he noted.

Also Russia has recently joined efforts with USA, the EU and the International Community at large, including WHO, by sending teams of Experts on the spot, and anouncing that it currently tries to prepare 2 relevant vaccines.
